grentperez at Queen Elizabeth Theatre!
By Marc Ducusin
On June 7th, 2025, grentperez brought his “Backflips in a Restaurant” tour to Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Vancouver, BC, and the whole night felt like a cozy dinner party with a few thousand friends.
grentperez is a Filipino-Australian singer-songwriter who blew up online with his voice and heartfelt tracks like “Cherry Wine” and “Clementine.” His music blends indie-pop, soul, and a bit of R&B.
Rocco, an up-and-coming artist who blends soulful vocals with smooth guitar work, opened the night. His stage presence was chill but confident, and he set the tone perfectly for what was about to be a really heartfelt night. His set felt honest and lowkey, like he wasn’t trying too hard, just letting the music speak. You could tell the crowd was locked in early.
When grentperez hit the stage, the energy shifted completely. He came out full of life. He was smiling, laughing, moving around the stage like he was genuinely just stoked to be there. The stage was designed like a restaurant, staying true to his album and tour title. There was a dinner table, chairs, and warm, cozy lighting that made it feel like we were inside a living room or family-owned café. It wasn’t just a set, it became part of the experience.
One of the most special moments was when grentperez invited a couple from the crowd on stage to sit at the dinner table while he sang a song to them. It was wholesome and personal, and the entire crowd was loving it. You could feel the warmth in the room, like everyone was rooting for that couple. It was small moments like that that made the show feel more like a gathering than just a concert.
Throughout the set, grentperez was constantly interacting, not just with the fans but with his bandmates too. Their chemistry was obvious, full of jokes, banter, and little side glances that made the whole thing feel real and unrehearsed in the best way. He played fan favorites like “Dandelion,” “Clementine,” and played “Cherry Wine,”one of his most loved tracks, towards the end of the show. You could hear the crowd singing every word, soft and loud at the same time.
What stood out wasn’t just the music, but how connected grentperez was to everyone in the room. He shared stories, cracked jokes, and just seemed like a guy who loves what he does, and that kind of energy is contagious.
This show felt more like a memory than just a performance. Between the music, the staging, the crowd energy, and the personal touches, it was something people will hold on to. Vancouver showed up, and grentperez gave it all right back.
